Daily Office Readings – Gospel ( Matthew 23:1-12 ) The scribes and the Pharisees sit on Moses’ seat; therefore, do whatever they teach you and follow it; but do not do as they do, for they do not practice what they teach. Matthew 23:2-3 In the news recently, at a race in Georgia, a man came…
Today’s Daily Office Readings – Gospel ( Matthew 22:34-46 ) The interesting thing in today’s Gospel, I thought, was the very first verse: “When the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together, and one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question to test him.” When the Pharisees heard that he had…
Just recently I attended a retreat, during which we had the opportunity to learn about prayer beads and mantras from a licensed yoga instructor. One of the things that they tried to make clear to us is that any repetitive phrase is a mantra, and that any string of beads used to help focus your…
When BMW Motorrad unveiled the new Concept R18 at the concorso d’eleganza, I thought it was fantastic: a nostalgic, retro looking machine that would pull people like me who ride both the F800GS and the S1000R back onto another cruiser (I used to ride a Yamaha Bolt). Lectionary Readings – (23rd Sunday after Pentecost) One of the first things that jumped out at me in today’s Gospel Reading was not that Jesus was talking about the destruction of the temple in Jerusalem, or the idea of false prophets that will try and deceive the people of God, or even the idea that…
Lectionary Readings – (14th Sunday After Pentecost) I have a small notebook that I carry around with me almost everywhere I go. In it, I keep ideas for new software applications, new business ideas, my rantings and ravings, sermon ideas, and personal thoughts. Most of what I write in this notebook is very personal to…
Lectionary Readings – (6th Sunday After Pentecost) As I was preparing for today, reading about Mary and Martha, I was reminded of a cartoon I saw on Facebook recently. The sheep is lying on a garden recliner watching television, behind him the radio is blaring, he’s reading a magazine and simultaneously listening to an iPod.…
